[Tutorial] How to make a granite type background

Greetings fellow designers

If you have visited YouTube and have a eye like Adrian Monk you would have noticed it’s background is not just grey. It has somewhat like a grainy texture in the background. Although very light but gives a very different appeal  when used. To make it more clear see this image to spot the difference.

I find this to be a lot soothing on the eyes and also it erases the very plain look of a website without over doing it. I highly recommend you apply this pattern as your website especially if you want your website have a very regal or minimalistic look.

So Lets start with the tutorial.

Step 1.
Open Photoshop and create a new file(Ctrl + N). Use the following settings –
Width – 150
Height – 150

Step 2.

Choose the Paint Bucket Tool(Ctrl + G) and fill in the layer with Grey Color(#d6d6d6)

Step 3.

Now it’s the time to add the grains. With the current layer selected go to Filters>Sketch>Note Paper

A new window will open for the settings. Make sure Note paper filter is selected. Fill in the following settings –
Image Balance – 50
Graininess – 9
Relief – 0
and click OK

Steps 4.

There you’re almost done, now is the time to make this image as a texture/pattern so that it may be used in your awesome regal designs. Go to Edit>Define Brush Preset, and there you are done!

I hope you liked the tutorial, it’s quite simple and effective. Still if you have anu doubts or queries don’t be shy to ask in comments!
